David Splivalo
President and Chief Strategy Officer
In his role as president and chief strategy officer of Freestyle PR, David is responsible for ensuring the agency’s success on three fronts: industry reputation and market position, domestic and global growth, and service offerings. He is also a principal-in-charge of several of the agency’s accounts including Palisade Systems, a data loss prevention firm that produces technology products aimed at stopping internal threats, and Jennifer Litwin the “Shop Cop”, America’s home shopping expert and television personality who helps consumers make smart decisions when buying products for their home.
In addition to managing Freestyle, Splivalo also contributes to the tactical programs of several of the agencies accounts. His most recent accolade on the media relations front was securing ten (and counting) NBC TODAY Show segments in 2007 for his client TraceSecurity, an industry feat never accomplished before in the public relations arena for a non-entertainment company. The first segment on TraceSecurity (which lasted almost six minutes) to appear on the TODAY Show was January 2, 2007, the most watched broadcast of the year. In addition to his contacts at the TODAY Show, David also maintains long-time relationships with prominent members of the media on the East and West Coast. These relationships have netted his clients feature stories in such media outlets as TIME Magazine, USA TODAY, CNBC, Fortune, CNN, Wall Street Journal, etc.
Before founding Freestyle PR, David co-founded Capitol Hill Communications, a government and business communications firm specializing in tailored services for governments, agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals as it relates to the US government and critical infrastructures. Following the opening of Capitol Hill Communications, David was hired as the first PR manager for Scott Speed, the only American race car driver competing in the most watched sport (other than the summer Olympics) in the world, Formula 1. Prior to Capitol Hill Communications, David worked at several other public relations firms in the Midwest, East Coast and Silicon Valley.
David also has several years of political experience working for former California Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante, former California Congressmen Dooley and Lehman and U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer. In addition to his paid experience, David provides pro-bono national public relations assistance to the Technology Association of Iowa and the WWII U.S. Merchant Marine Veterans. In his spare time, David restores cars, travels, plays his guitar, and works on his historic home. David earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Fresno State and is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America.
